The Evaluation Process

The psychological evaluation process is designed to be thorough, supportive, and tailored to each individual’s unique needs. The goal is to gain a clear understanding of emotional, behavioral, cognitive, and learning strengths and challenges.

Initial Consultation

The process begins with an intake consultation to discuss concerns, background information, and goals for the evaluation. For children and adolescents this includes meeting with parents or caregivers and gathering developmental, academic, and medical history.

This can take place via phone, in-person, or online video chat.

Assessment & Testing

The evaluation may include standardized testing of cognitive abilities, academic skills, attention, executive functioning, and emotional or behavioral aptitude.

Age-appropriate measures are selected based on the referral questions and the individual’s needs. Testing is typically completed over one or more sessions in a comfortable, supportive environment.

Information Gathering

Additional information may be collected through parent and teacher questionnaires, classroom or behavioral observations, and review of school records or previous evaluations. This ensures a comprehensive picture of functioning across settings.

Scoring, Interpretation & Diagnosis

All assessment data is carefully scored and interpreted using clinical expertise and evidence-based practices. When appropriate a diagnosis may be considered.

Feedback & Recommendations

A feedback session is held with parents to review results, explain findings in clear and understandable terms, and discuss personalized recommendations. Evaluations may include guidance for school support, interventions, and accommodations that can be incorporated into IEPs or 504 Plans.

Written Report

A comprehensive written report is provided which will summarize results, conclusions, and practical recommendations. The goal is to strengthen academic, emotional, and behavioral success at home and school through strategic support.

Re-evaluations

A psychological re-evaluation is conducted to reassess an individual’s functioning over time. Re-evaluations help determine how their needs, strengths, and challenges may have changed and whether current diagnoses, support, and recommendations remain appropriate.
Psychological re-evaluations are often requested to:

  • Monitor progress and response to interventions or treatment
  • Update testing results for school planning, IEPs, or 504 Plans
  • Reassess learning, attention, or emotional concerns as academic demands increase
  • Clarify or confirm previous diagnoses
  • Determine eligibility for continued or new accommodations or services
  • Provide updated documentation required by schools, colleges, or testing agencies
  • Address new concerns that have emerged since a prior evaluation

Re-evaluations take into account previous assessment data while incorporating updated testing and current information from parents, teachers, and other providers. The goal is to provide an accurate, up-to-date understanding of functioning and to offer practical, individualized recommendations that support continued growth and success.
